Privacy policy
This policy explains what personal data Matera Eco Ltd collects, why we use it, who we share it with, and the choices you have.
Last updated: 25 June 2026
1. Who we are
Matera is operated by Matera Eco Ltd. We run a marketplace where buyers discover sustainable building materials and connect with suppliers.
For privacy questions or requests, email hello@matera.eco.
2. Information we collect
We collect only what we need to operate, protect, and improve Matera.
- Account details: name, email, role, login details, preferences, and account status.
- Buyer activity: saved materials, projects, comparisons, enquiries, messages, quote requests, and contact form submissions.
- Supplier activity: business profiles, contacts, listings, certifications, case studies, sustainability claims, subscription details, messages, and profile analytics.
- Guest comparisons: local browser selections used to compare materials before sign-in. These are not tied to an account unless you later use account features.
- Technical data: IP address, device and browser details, pages visited, timestamps, referrals, security logs, cookies, and similar identifiers.
3. How we use information
- Create accounts, authenticate users, manage dashboards, and keep Matera secure.
- Display supplier profiles and material listings, save projects, support comparisons, process enquiries, and enable buyer-supplier communication.
- Review supplier submissions, moderate marketplace content, investigate misuse, debug errors, improve quality, and understand platform usage.
- Send service messages, respond to support requests, and share important account, security, or marketplace updates.
4. Legal bases
Where UK or EU data protection law applies, we rely on the legal bases below.
| Purpose | Legal basis |
|---|---|
| Accounts, dashboards, enquiries, messages, and quotes | Contract or steps taken before a contract |
| Security, moderation, abuse prevention, analytics, and product improvement | Legitimate interests |
| Accounting, compliance, legal requests, and dispute handling | Legal obligation or legitimate interests |
| Optional cookies, marketing, or features that ask for permission | Consent |
You can withdraw consent at any time where processing depends on consent. This will not affect processing that happened before withdrawal.
5. Sharing information
- Buyers and suppliers: we share relevant details when you use enquiries, quote requests, messages, supplier profiles, or material listings.
- Service providers: we use providers for hosting, database infrastructure, authentication, email, analytics, monitoring, payments, security, and support. They may process data only to provide services to us.
- Legal and safety reasons: we may disclose information where required by law, to protect rights and safety, to investigate misuse, or as part of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale.
- We do not sell personal data.
6. Cookies and local storage
Matera uses cookies and similar technologies for authentication, security, preferences, platform functionality, analytics, and performance monitoring. Some browser storage is needed for features such as guest material comparison.
You can clear cookies or local storage in your browser. Some platform features may stop working if you do.
7. Retention
- Account and marketplace records are kept while your account is active or while needed to provide Matera.
- Enquiries, messages, quotes, and supplier records may be retained to keep marketplace history accurate and resolve disputes.
- Security logs, analytics, and backups are kept for limited periods based on operational need.
- If you ask us to delete your account, we will delete or anonymise personal data where practical unless limited retention is needed for legal, security, fraud-prevention, accounting, or dispute-resolution purposes.
8. Your rights
Depending on where you live, you may have the right to access, correct, delete, restrict, object to, or receive a copy of your personal data. You may also be able to withdraw consent where we rely on it.
To make a request, email hello@matera.eco. We may need to verify your identity before acting on the request.
You may complain to your local data protection authority. In the UK, this is the Information Commissioner's Office.
9. International transfers
Some service providers may process information outside the UK or European Economic Area. Where required, we use appropriate safeguards such as contractual protections approved for international data transfers.
10. Changes to this policy
We may update this policy as Matera evolves. If changes are material, we will take reasonable steps to notify users, such as updating this page or sending a service notice.
